Creativity Takes Courage

As much as I love design magazines and impeccably curated Pinterest boards, I need to constantly remind myself of this simple quote:

“Creativity takes courage” – Henri Matisse

We are all surrounded by various types of media showing us what our homes should look like, but I want to share a little secret with you – I think true beauty comes from authenticity. I think it’s about leaning into your style and finding a way to express it that resonates with you.

Many clients hesitate at the threshold of creativity because it requires bold choices that can be uncertain or because they’re concerned about one common thing “resale value”. I understand this fear because I too often struggle with it, but I’m learning that my home is exactly that, ‘mine’. I want to fully enjoy it and build a backdrop to our family life that is not only beautiful but also meaningful. You could say that I’m on a mission to help my clients do the same in their homes.

In my opinion ‘good design’ requires boldness and being willing to courageously express who you are. It’s about making a statement that says unequivocally, “This is who I am.” This courage to defy conventional design norms in favor of personal preference is what transforms your house into your home. It’s not about chasing the fleeting trends or trying to make your space look like what you see in magazines; it’s about creating a home that holds your memories, a place that grows alongside you and your loved ones and offers comfort in everyday life.

My role as an interior designer, is to support and inspire you to make daring and heartfelt choices that reflect who you are. I love helping clients showcase their personality and perspectives by infusing their spaces with a sense of self, to tell their unique stories through texture, color, and form. Whether it’s reviving a cherished family heirloom within a contemporary context or choosing a vibrant wallpaper, these decisions forge a deeper connection between your home and your personal story.

And with that, I think there’s really only one way to end this post because it fully embodies how I approach interior design…

“Be faithful to your own taste, because nothing you really like is ever out of style.” – Billy Baldwin.
